Massachusetts Vest-A-Dog is an independent, all-volunteer, non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to provide support for Massachusetts Police Dogs: helping provide bulletproof K-9 vests, essential equipment, training, and dogs for police / law enforcement programs throughout Massachusetts. From 2000-2008, Massachusetts Vest-A-Dog was a division of the Barnstable Police Association.
The defining moment which inspired the creation of MA Vest-A-Dog was the tragic death of K-9 Cero, who was killed in the line of duty on March 25, 2000. He was the devoted partner of Deputy William R. Niemi of the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office in Jefferson, Ohio. Read Cero’s heartbreaking story
Because of the tireless work of our volunteers and generous support from our donors, MA Vest-a-Dog is proud to have provided 498+ vests to the following Massachusetts law enforcement agencies:
- Local police departments
- County sheriff’s departments
- State Police
- Department of Corrections
- MBTA Transit Police
- Environmental Police
- Department of Mental Retardation
- USAF – Hanscom AFB
- USCG – Gloucester, Hull
Heartfelt thanks to the many wonderful pet people and their companion animals, we’ve met along the way. You gave us so much more than just a donation. You enriched our lives in ways we never dreamed possible. Also, thanks to the individuals, organizations and businesses who have generously supported the cause, including: Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Lions Club, school groups, women’s groups, animal welfare groups, pet-related businesses, veterinarians, and those who have accepted donations in honor of First Communion, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Birthdays, Weddings, Anniversaries, etc. Thank you for your support.
